About Us

The principal program of Hudson Jazzworks is the Hudson Jazz Workshop, presented annually since 2007 and co-led by pianist Armen Donelian and saxophonist Marc Mommaas.

The Workshop runs during mid-August for 4 days and 3 nights. We attract instrumentalists and vocalists from around the globe. Our world-class performing artist/faculty encourages a lively dialogue that fosters mutual understanding and an exchange of ideas. The focus is on improvisational duo playing, music composition, practice regimens and related lifestyle issues. The daily schedule of interactive hands-on master classes and evening jam sessions includes ample performance demonstration and provides specialized one-on-one instruction. On the final day, an acclaimed guest artist presents a unique seminar and headlines a public student/faculty concert at the historic Hudson Opera House. In 2009, saxophonist David Liebman was our guest. In 2010, pianist Jim McNeely joins us. Workshop housing is provided through the generosity of nearby venues in rural Columbia County, NY. Fresh, wholesome meals are prepared and served daily by our cuisine specialist Rose Caldwell. For the participants, The Hudson Jazz Workshop experience is nurturing and truly life-changing, as our testimonials indicate.

As a non-profit organization, Hudson Jazzworks seeks funding through grants and graciously accepts private donations to support its activities and increase its regional and international impact

Non Profit

Hudson Jazzworks (HJW) is a newly-formed 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization founded in 2009 exclusively for educational purposes. We present workshops, seminars, classes, concerts and all other activities that we may legally conduct to promote, disseminate and transmit the knowledge, composition and performance of music. HJW’s dual educational/artistic agenda serves the needs of our participants whose commitment is evident both from the great distances they travel (often on an annual basis) and the Workshop’s entirely tuition-driven basis to date.

Contributions, become a member

In 2010, HJW welcomes the contributions of members as a way to help to sustain and grow our programs as we also seek corporate and public funding to increase our future regional and international impact. We also appreciate donations of any size from private individuals to make it possible to continue and expand our activities, including the establishment of a scholarship fund. All gifts to HJW are tax deductible. Members also receive a number of benefits. Please consider giving to HJW. We thank you for your generous support and look forward to seeing and hearing from you soon.
